Product Description
It doesn't take big bucks to enjoy big sound. The Polk SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater is a self-contained powered SurroundBar® SDA® loudspeaker and companion wireless powered subwoofer. We designed it for anyone who's technologically insecure. And we priced it so it won't add to the national debt. It's the most economical (dare we say smart?) way to upgrade your flat panel's built-in speakers to a much, much higher level of performance and enjoy all the benefits of a three-dimensional sound stage. The SurroundBar SDA IHT works with your remote, the one you're already intimately familiar with (you know, the one with all those buttons that no one knows how to use). It also comes with all the wires you need for hook up - one. Really, there is no complicated setup or anything else to buy. And you don't have to camouflage multiple speakers, because there are no rear speakers or rear speaker wires. What is SDA® Surround Sound Technology? SDA stands for Stereo Dimensional Array, a patented Polk Audio exclusive*. Matthew Polk describes SDA Surround Technology as "a mixture of acoustical engineering, psychoacoustic principles and a little magic."

4 out of 5 stars Good starter   July 7, 2010

Overall quality is very good and sound, even though not surround sound is very good. Wireless subwoofer produces good bass and I like being able to move it closer when needed. TV remote setup required a trip to the internet to get better instructions but was rather simple once I understood how to program the sound bar.

Only issue I have is sound bar has a self-protection feature that turns off the sound if it gets too loud. This is a nice feature however it seems to be set a little too low as I have experienced this several times. No big deal just requires turning sound bar off and back on which can be done via the TV remote.

1 out of 5 stars Good idea - poor execution   June 6, 2010

The DVD player portion broke within two weeks. I thought the sound was good but the wife (who has much better hearing than me) complained that it lacked clarity. It blocks the closed captions on the TV setup - apparently closed captions have to be set from the Polk controller unit. I have returned the unit to Amazon for a refund and ordered a ZVOX which I will combine with one of my DVD players.

5 out of 5 stars easy great sound   April 30, 2010

I bought this because we wanted better sound
from the 42" Sony lcd in the bedroom.
This is the secondary t.v. when I am watching something else (sports) or for listening to music on DirecTV.
This soundbar sounded the best of all the ones I listened to at a local best buy.
Very easy to set up, as there are only rca jacks hooked up to the HD DTV box.
This did come with a remote, but it's not needed with my set up.
DirecTV remote was easy to program.
The only weird thing using this is that even though the t.v. speakers are off,
the volume progress bar shows up and min/max out way before the
soundbar does.
So, the numbers get thrown off.
Sometimes it's loud at 8, sometimes 80.
Could be just the set up with this particular t.v. or the DirecTV box settings.
Cons- Should have HDMI and it's a little pricey.
Other than that, we love it.
Sounds great if you don't need surround sound and don't want a separate receiver.

5 out of 5 stars Great System   April 29, 2010

System sounds great and is user friendly. Took very little time to set up and sounds much better than tv speakers. Would recommend to anyone who wants to enhance the sound quality of their flat screen television.

5 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Piece of Equipment   April 22, 2010

Before I purchased, I read many reviews on the product, and came to the conclusion that this was for me, and I wasn't wrong..! Easy to set-up, I have connected the sound system to my projector, with a 3m screen, sit back and watch the latest film or Premiership Football with a superb sound. The only thing I would say is when I tried to control the sound bar with the remote from the SKY UK Decoder, I could only have it doing one thing at a time, either + volume or - volume, or mute, or stand-by. I decided to choose mute. but for the price of $399 converted into sterling pounds, a bargain.
