5 out of 5 stars Fantastic   April 18, 2010

I have a difficult time understanding how anyone could rate this system anything but 4 or 5 stars. Seriously, if they did they must have gotten a lemon. I received this system a couple of weeks ago and waited to set it up till we moved into our new home which we did this morning. My entertainment center was delivered and assembled today so I got it all put together a few hours ago. I have a Mitsubishi WD-60C8 60" DLP. The setup was a piece of cake. The rear speakers come packaged with a ton of speaker wire so you can get them where you need to. I hired an electrician who ran the speaker wire back for me under the carpet and behind the floor boards. I have this system connected to my television, blu-ray player, and Comcast HD DVR all via HDMI. IT is a VERY nice feature that you run all the HDMI cables from your devices (i.e. blu-ray player, dvr, xbox, etc..) to the amplifier/receiver, and then run one HDMI cable from the amp to your tv. The remote has buttons on it that say, "TV, BD, DVD, SAT" and all you do is push one of those buttons and it switches for you. Thus you don't have to constantly hit the tv/video button on your tv remote until you get to the right setting. The receiver/amp does it all for you. It works very nicely. I put in a blu-ray disc of the movie 'UP', sat back, and was just astounded at the sound quality. Honestly, it is excellent. Like previous reviewers, I am no audiophile, (although I do own a headphone amp and some nice Sennheisers) but this system sounds great. I mounted the three front speakers on the top of my entertainment center and used a little double sided tape to secure them. They aren't light, but need a little help staying put. For the money, this thing is a seriously good price. The speakers are so cool and such a great conversation piece. At the moment, I am listening to music through my cable subscription. It sounds fantastic. The sub-woofer does a very nice job. I am very satisfied with this product.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome tiny GIANT   March 29, 2010

Speakers look like toys and when you first look at them you will definitely think over and over if you have done the right thing. We live in a town house(row house) so can't put in a real heavy sounding giant. Picked this and it is the perfect fit for my house. I am not really an expert at analyzing sounds from these equipment but to me this one sounds great. My neighbor has a Bose system which he paid $2700 and this was 1/10th the cost (~ approximately). So for 1/10th the cost it sounds close to 60% of Bose system(again, my assessment), can't ask more in terms of "bang for your buck".

On the whole I am very happy with the system, here are some highlights...
1) Can connect three HDMI(PS3, Dish TV & laptop) input devices to the device.
2) DMPORT device that connects your ipod and iphone is included with the box ($50 to $60 value)
3) can connect WII or VCR to this.
4) Speakers are small and can be almost hid or tiny that you won't notice them.
5) Sounds great.

5 out of 5 stars Home Theater Phenomenon!!   March 22, 2010

Overall, very pleased with the results I've received from such tiny size product; however, it turns into a powerful "phenomenon" the minute I press that power button on my remote. I have it hooked to a Sharp 42" 1080P and PS3.
FYI- I am an electronic geek (started off as a DJ, now a guitarist/base player, have recorded albums in various studios in NYC, etc); and all I can say is that this is the 2nd best electronic investment I've ever made.
Now, this system wasn't made to blow people's head off with high volume, perhaps if you are looking for 1000+ watts, look somewhere else; however, should you want rich, precise booming and crystal clear home theater sound for living room, family room, loft like setup; engage with the ht-is100. You will not regret it and your partner wont either. Two reasons, space saver and because they are a space saver, they collect no dust what's so ever. If you have this product, you know what I'm talking about, if you don't, I assure you there is nothing out there that will give you more value for the money. My friend who owns a lifestyle v20 priced @ $2K, says to me he wishes he would've seen this product before he purchased his.
Finally, some reviewers criticized the location of the screen on the amp; I see what they are saying, but I actually prefer where it is. It's probably worth mentioning that there are other more expensive products out there that don't even have screens. I'm thankful I have one.
Hope it was helpful - good luck in your buy!

5 out of 5 stars Big sound, small speakers, good price   February 10, 2010

The small speakers give out pleanty of great sound for a modest (12 X 16) open concept family room. The clarity of sound output for network programs (i.e. CSI) broadcast in 5.1 adds clear dimention to the experience. When watching sports in "sports" mode, the crowd is in the background, literally (from the rear surround sound speakers).

It's probably user ignorance, but PS3 blu-ray movies appear to come across in 2.0 rather 5.1 even though the PS3 is a Sony product, the system is a Sony product, and the TV is also a Sony product.

I'd recommend this product to anyone who wanted an unobtrusive system. There may be systems that are louder or have an on-screen menu/display, but for our family use, it's worked out very well.

4 out of 5 stars HT-IS100 fits the bill exactly for my needs   November 20, 2009

I had a need to install a HTIB (home theater in a box) unit in the bedroom to enjoy movies on my recently installed 40" LCD Sony Bravia flat panel TV.

In researching various options, I was instantly attracted to this unit - simply for the tiny speakers it comes with. The more I researched this product, the more I wanted it. Sony had this product for $200 as a closeout on their website. Unfortunately, I couldn't get that deal. I opted to buy through amazon. The unit arrived promptly with no shipment damage.

This unit will not compete with a home theater setup you may have in your living room, it is perfect for a den / bedroom configuration. It has various HDMI inputs. I am currently using this unit with a Panasonic DVD recorder as well as a Western Digital HD media player. Both use HDMI cables. The TV is mounted on the wall. The speakers of this unit are so tiny, I was able to place the speakers on the top edge of the TV, using very small pieces of Velcro tape.

The sound quality / loudness is more than acceptable for a bedroom type scenario. The audio fidelity will surprise you for a unit this size. It has ample inputs. It also comes with an iPod dock - it all works well.

Note: Be sure to connect the extra jack that comes attached to the center channel speaker cable. If you don't connect it, the remote will not work. The sensor for the remote is located in the center channel speaker housing. I thought I had a defective unit. In going to Sony's website, under the troubleshooting section, the very first question is "my remote doesn't work". The operational manual is not very clear in explaining this, or perhaps, I may have missed it. Nonetheless, the cable needs to be inserted at the appropriate jack on the unit for the remote to function.

Friends are amazingly impressed by the sound coming out of the tiny speakers.

Lastly, the price of this unit seems to be fluctuating on amazon's website. I paid significantly less that what is currently being shown as the current price.
