Product Description Sometimes the quest for home surround sound is as ignominious as seeking the holy grail. Where do you place all those speakers? Do you have to reshape the room? Philips engineers have tackled that problem. They've managed to take the output from 5 distinct channel amplifiers and placed them in a single speaker called a Soundbar. Within the soundbar, speakers are angled to provide a realistic audio environment that literally emulates sound as if it's coming from all sides. It's 5.1 surround without the mess! In addition to the latest audio technology, the Ambisound system is only five inches thick and can be easily mounted onto a wall underneath an existing Flat-TV. The simple, yet elegant design enhances the décor of any home theater space, regardless of the room layout or design. The center console is designed to be mounted on a wall or resting on a stand. For maximum audio quality and clarity, the Ambisound system features a 3-band equalizer and DoubleBASS deep bass performance, creating a smooth cross over between sounds. The speakers feature soft dome tweeters for increased clarity and clear voice performance and are designed for maximum efficiency for full midrange performance. Additionally, users will enjoy the Smart Surround feature, which automatically ensures correct surround sound settings whether a movie or music is playing. Though not exactly 5.1 channel sound, The HTS8100 uses a host of technologies including array processing, precise driver positioning and psycho-acoustic innovation to achieve the full surround sound performance that is 5.1 channel compatible. Auxiliary input ports Subwoofer Only five-inches thick, the Ambisound SoundBar provides a stylish system with amplifier and a DVD player all in a single sophisticated design Philips advanced Sonowave surround SonoWave surround sound technology is compatible with all 5.1 channel surround-sound sources, such as DVDs, SACDs

Great sound small unit July 8, 2010 fors29 WOW I am so impressed with this sound bar. It was so easy to install, has a docking station for my ipod and a DVD player right on the bar. A smaller unit then expected with great sound. Use in a game room 25x30 with hardwood floors and it sounds great.
Great value March 29, 2010 VAP Mid-range sound rendition is very good. DVD/CD player and AM/FM radio simple to use. Very easy to wire/connect and toggle between inputs. Still, like all these products, requires the use of a remote separate from the Comcast cable remote. Other than that, no complaints. Excellent value,I believe. Philips AmbiSound Home Theater Sound Bar with Integrated 1080p-Upscaling DVD/MP3 Player, HTS8100/37 Doubt I'll use the MP-3 "dock" since I don't have/use any product having it.
I Bought 2 of these - nice when they work! February 26, 2010 H. Brake (Little Rock, AR United States) Ok, I have 2 of these. When they are working, they are really great. However, when I first purchased them - one of them went out within 1 month. Luckily I could still return it to the store where I bought it. Now, 4 months later, the other one has some problem where the sound comes and goes. I called Philips and once I sent them the proof of purchase, where they said they would call me back within 2 business days, they never called back. I called them the next day, and they said that they would have to send me to customer support to get it replaced. Customer support was in Canada and said they couldn't find out the amount in the inventory until the next day, but they would call me back. Never called back, so 2 days later I call them again. Then I am told that they have nothing to replace it with - even though it's the current model and people are selling them all over. They now said they would give me back my purchase price, however I had a big discount on it when I purchased it. Therefore, now when they finally give me a refund, I will have to put another $100 with it to buy a new one. Talk about bad craftsmanship and bad customer service, I regret buying anything from Philips. Buyer Beware!
Great alternative to traditional home theater system January 31, 2010 J. Brandt I bought this sound bar because I didn't want to deal with a multi-speaker home theater system. I also didn't have a DVD player, so this product really fit the bill. I love it! Great quality sound, nice look.
No sound cables January 28, 2010 Robert L. Prestia (Rancho Bernardo, Ca, US) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
This system does NOT play the sound from my TV. In the instructions it clearly states in step 3 of the setup guide "Cables not included"
